That Fucking Tank
Jealous Records
2005
This ridiculously named duo make me instantly think of Shellac. Recorded live in the backroom of a Leeds pub, it has all the scratchy, noisy guitar stuff that is becoming all the rage now. These guys have, like so many other people right now, been listening to Gang of Four a lot, and it shows.
Not that I necessarily consider that a bad thing. It would just be nice to hear punk moving in a new direction instead of always dredging up the past again and again.
That being said, That Fucking Tank do a good job of creating their own noise, in their own way. Noted by their lack of vocals, their songs are like abstract punk-jazz compositions, with plenty of the old angular riffs and the occasional overly distorted guitar blast.
Backed up by an inventive use of drumming, you can't fault That Fucking Tank for shear mad entertainment. Let's hope their taste for experimentation moves them in new directions.
